## Why the distinction can feel confusing

You used to get through your routine, but now ordinary tasks feel heavier. You may be tired even after a day off, lose interest in things you normally enjoy, or find it harder to concentrate. Stress, depression, disrupted sleep, medical conditions, and medication effects can all contribute to similar experiences. A short online description cannot distinguish them for you.

Burnout is often discussed in relation to sustained pressures at work, especially when demands are high and support is limited. Depression can affect mood, interest, energy, thinking, and daily functioning across many settings. They can overlap; being busy or overwhelmed does not rule out depression, and feeling exhausted does not automatically mean you have it.

## Patterns that deserve attention

Notice whether your mood or motivation shifts mainly around work demands, or whether activities outside work also feel flat or difficult. Changes in appetite, sleep, self-worth, concentration, and connection with others are also useful to note. You do not have to wait for every symptom or reach a particular threshold before asking for help.

A clinician may ask how long the changes have lasted, how they affect daily life, and whether physical illness, sleep problems, medications, or other factors might contribute. An assessment is intended to look at the whole picture rather than assign a label from one symptom.

## A short reflection to bring to your visit

Consider writing a few notes for yourself—not in an ordinary website contact form. Specific examples are often more useful than searching for the perfect diagnostic term.

-

When did you first notice the change, and was there a new demand, illness, or major life event?

-

What has become more difficult at work, at home, or with people you care about?

-

What happens on your days off: meaningful relief, partial relief, or little change?

-

What has changed in your sleep, appetite, energy, enjoyment, or sense of hope?

## What care might involve

An evaluation can clarify whether symptoms suggest depression, another mental health concern, or something that calls for medical follow-up. Depending on the individual, options may include psychotherapy with an appropriate clinician, practical supports, medication, or a combination. Not every person needs medication, and no website article can tell you which approach is right.

If you are thinking about starting care, you may ask how treatment choices are made, how progress is assessed, and when follow-up would be appropriate. For symptoms related to working conditions, changes to workload and workplace support may also matter.

## Getting started with Her Mind & Wellness

A psychiatric evaluation is a conversation about symptoms, health history, preferences, and possible next steps—not a promise of medication. Elizabeth Ghadimi, PMHNP-BC, provides adult psychiatric evaluation and medication management when appropriate through Her Mind & Wellness. In-person visits are offered in El Paso and Texas telehealth visits are available when you are physically in Texas. You can explore insurance, self-pay, and a free 15-minute introductory consultation through the site's care options; requests and insurance eligibility still require confirmation.

If hopelessness or emotional pain has become urgent, seek immediate help rather than waiting for an appointment. Otherwise, bring your notes and your questions. The first goal can simply be understanding what is happening and deciding on a next step.

This material is educational and does not diagnose or replace personal medical advice. Do not start, stop or change medication based on this page. For suicidal thoughts or a mental health crisis in the United States, call or text 988. If you are in immediate danger or having a medical emergency, call 911. Website appointment requests are not an emergency service.
